Although extruded aluminium is very common in a wide range of applications, it is not suitable for all situations. Any requirement for improved performance can be turned to cold worked aluminium as a raw material. Aerospace products requiring high strength often require cold worked bars, which are also used in a large number of automotive applications.

Some of the more popular alloys used in cold worked applications include 2011, 2024, 6061 and 7075.

Common alloys used in aluminium extrusion are 1060, 1070, 6063, 6061, 6005 and 6082, of which the more common is probably 6063, which is used in a wide range of applications: architectural decoration, furniture, industrial aluminium profiles, electronics, telecommunications, energy and many other areas.

In the transport sector, cars and motorbikes rely heavily on aluminium; the material is lightweight and improves fuel efficiency. Also, aluminium is used in trains and metro carriages because of its strength and environmental advantages as well as its aesthetic appearance. Other examples of applications featuring forged aluminium include aluminium radiators, railings, racks, mechanical components, irrigation tubing, electrical/electronic equipment fittings, furniture fittings and more.
