The type of aluminium alloy used is very much dependent on the manufacturing technique required. Some alloys are easier to weld than others. Generally speaking, grades 1xx, 3xxx, 4xxx, 5xxx and 6xxx are better suited to welding applications. This includes the 6061 variant which is very popular and versatile in a variety of industries from aerospace and automotive to packaging and communications. On the other hand, 2xxx and 7xxx alloys are considered non-weldable, with a few exceptions such as 2219 and 7003.

When it comes to bending, aluminium is usually a major material because of its formability. Many different alloys can be used, but some common ones include 3003, 5052 and 6061. 3003 is particularly suitable for bending, with a large bending radius and high elongation properties.
