Two methods of strengthening aluminium sheets

Different industries and fields have different performance requirements for aluminium sheets, and in industries such as machining, the hardness requirements for aluminium sheets are particularly stringent, which requires hardening treatment during the production of aluminium sheets to improve the hardness of aluminium sheets and achieve the performance requirements. At present, there are two mainstream processing methods, respectively, processing strengthening and solution strengthening, the following two methods are briefly introduced.

Process-strengthened aluminium sheet

Process strengthening, also known as cold hardening, is the aluminum plate in the recrystallization temperature below the cold deformation process such as forging, rolling, drawing, stretching, etc., cold deformation, aluminum plate internal dislocation density increases, and mutual entanglement and the formation of cell-like structure, hindering dislocation movement. The greater the degree of deformation, the more serious the dislocation entanglement, the greater the deformation resistance, the higher the strength. The degree of strengthening after cold deformation varies with the degree of deformation, deformation temperature and the nature of the material itself. When the same material is cold deformed at the same temperature, the greater the degree of deformation, the higher the strength, the lower the plasticity.

Solid solution reinforced aluminium sheets

Adding certain alloying elements to pure aluminium to form an infinite solid solution or a finite solid solution, not only can we obtain high strength, but also excellent plasticity and good pressure processing properties. The most commonly used alloying elements for solid solution strengthening in general aluminium sheets are copper, magnesium, manganese, zinc, silicon, nickel and other elements. The general alloying of aluminium plates are formed in limited solid solution, such as Al-Cu, Al-Mg, Al-Zn, Al-Si, Al-Mn and other binary alloys are formed in limited solid solution, and all have a larger ultimate solubility can play a larger solid solution strengthening effect.

After the strengthening of the aluminium plate, its hardness performance will be significantly enhanced, but its hardness can not always be enhanced; when reaching the upper limit of hardness, no matter what method, can not continue to improve the hardness of the aluminium plate, can only choose the base hardness on a higher grade.
