The main advantages of aluminium foil

The transport and storage of products in aluminium foil is economical due to the light weight of the foil, the use of sheet or roll packaging styles and the adhesion properties of aluminium foil in certain foil containers that are more suitable for filling lines. Aluminium foil helps to save resources in packaging, production and waste transport. Aluminium foil packaging saves energy because it has a long service life and the product does not need to be refrigerated. At the same time, its compact and space-saving shape makes it easy to transport and display, resulting in further energy and cost savings. The light weight and performance of aluminium foil minimises the amount of packaging material required.

Secondly, aluminium foil has a stable structure. In lightweight honeycomb structures, aluminium foil brings the necessary robustness and stability and can therefore be used by architects to lighten the structure and foundations of buildings, and by engineers to reduce the weight of transport equipment, including ships, aircraft, lorries and buses.

Thirdly, aluminium can be 100% recycled, recycled and retains its original characteristics. The aluminium recycling process requires only 5% of the energy required for the production of primary aluminium and, as a result, the greenhouse gas emissions from the recycling process are significantly reduced. Modern separation technologies can extract and regenerate aluminium from domestic end-of-life aluminium products at a fraction of the energy cost of the primary aluminium process. If the aluminium foil is not recycled but treated in an incinerator, the surface of the foil in this lightweight composite material oxidises rapidly and releases energy, generating heat that can be recovered. Meanwhile, the aluminium that fails to oxidise melts and can be recovered from the bottom ash of the incinerator and re-entered into the recycling channel.
