Tin foil is mainly used for packaging food, medicines, cosmetics and other chemicals, and is mostly shiny on one side and matt on the other.

Tin foil should not come into direct contact with an open fire, and cannot be easily heated in a microwave oven, nor should food wrapped in tin foil be overly acidic to avoid harmful substances leaching out.
