Reasons and preventive measures for cracking of aluminum plate after bending

There are several main reasons why aluminum plates crack after bending. And to prevent this from happenning we are going to introduce you some preventive measures for aluminum plate cracking after bending.

1. The hardness of the aluminum plate, the state and the quality of the aluminum plate: the hardness of the aluminum plate is too high, and it is easy to crack. This requires the selection of high-quality aluminum plates, and special attention should be paid to the parameters of aluminum alloy and state when selecting. Usually, we usually use 1 series, 3 series and 5 series aluminum plates. The 6-series and 7-series aluminum sheets are annealed before bending due to their high hardness. The state of aluminum plate is divided into full hard, semi-hard and soft state. The full-hard bending effect is basically not good, and the semi-hard aluminum plate can basically be bent. Bending in the O state is certainly possible, but because it is so soft, there is basically less bending in this state. It is recommended to re-measure the sample under specific circumstances. If 6061, 2024 and 7075 are used because of their high stiffness, especially in the T6 temper, they should not be bent. The difference between high-quality aluminum plate and inferior aluminum plate is that there are differences in oxidation performance, corrosion resistance, surface effect, crystal precision and uniform stability. The bending effect is not very different.

2. Thickness of aluminum plate: Too thick aluminum plate is not easy to bend, which also makes the aluminum plate more prone to cracking. According to our experiment, we came to a conclusion - we should try to use thinner aluminum plate.

3. Large and thin bending R angle: The larger the bending angle of the aluminum plate, the higher the success rate of its bending. So if you don't want the aluminum plate to crack, please try to make the aluminum plate with large corners.

4. The grain direction of the aluminum plate: the bending direction should be perpendicular to the grain direction of the aluminum plate, but the two must not be parallel. The drawn aluminum plate parts are required to be drawn after bending. If the direction is the same, it will increase the probability of bending cracking.
